Week 7 Discussion

Project 2

Share your instructor and the class the challenges you're having with your 3D element and particles. Do you have a plan to overcome these issues? If not ask for help and support team work is key here. If you have no problems then share tips and techniques you think others might be of benefit.

  1. the challenges that I am having a problem with is my particles and how to create them or apply them to after effects. also another thing is when the camera does a close up to my house my house moves backward and I don't know what to do to keep it still.

  2. Dear Lili, particles would be created in Maya (look Maya Help & prior class). You want to render just the particles, therefore you can assign a surface black shader (no specular highlights, reflectivity, etc.) to all objects in your scene except the particles. Make sure to lit the particles and then render. That way you'll have a sequence of images, which you can bring in AE as a layer for composite.
Also, say that a smoke comes behind a car in your final video - that means it will be easier to setup your scene, such as a car or just a simple shape ( even a one face Ngon polygon) to block the camera view before the smoke. That object also will take the black surface shader!
    ( Generally: Particles/nParticles > Create nParticles/ Create Emitter / Emit from object ..... )

The house would move if you have locked any properties (set keys) on the camera/zoom or the house/group or set parent/connection between the camera and the house. Dynamics can collide too! If you think of rain, it would be better to be done with AE particles system, yet some 3D particles are necessary, so probably smore or fire is a good idea (there is fire/smoke example built in Maya, which you can modify and use.
